Have you considered how much money we could save by preserving our resources instead of mitigating for their loss? How clean air and water benefit our health? How much local businesses depend on these resources, and how much protected land brings recreation to Dauphin County? Flood and pollution control, pollination, health, recrea-tion, property values, wildlife habitat, clean air, clean water, healthy vegetation—all of these are affected by how we treat our resources. They have a price that we don’t usually include in our bottom line when we destroy them.

To have a true picture of our local economy, this natural capital has to be included in the tally sheet. A new study has been completed called Dauphin County Return on Environment, the Economic Value of Protecting, Restoring and Expanding Nature’s Financial Benefits. Through the Kittatinny Coalition, led by Audubon Pennsylvania, The Appalachian Trail Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy and land trusts up and down the mountain ridges—including Manada Conservancy, and with the help of PA DCNR, this study has recently been completed.

Come and learn what we found out!

John Rogers, of Keystone Conservation Trust, completed the study and will present what was learned about resource-rich Dauphin County, and how everyone from individual landowners to corporations and municipalities can benefit from protecting these resources.
