Movement Ecology Of Turkey Vultures In North America

April 26, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

With a range that stretches from Canada to the Falklands Is-lands, the Turkey Vulture is the most widespread and abundant New World vulture. Yet, despite their abundance much of the basic ecology of Turkey Vultures remain unknown. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary has studied Turkey Vultures for the last 15 years. We’ll share what we’ve learned about the movement ecology of this common species using both high and low-tech methods. David Barber is the Senior Research Biologist at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary where he oversees the Sanctuary’s Geographic information System (GIS) and their long-term monitoring programs. When he is not exploring the Sanctuary birding, butterflying or sitting on North Lookout counting raptors he can be found brewing beer at Taylor House Brewing company in Catasauqua.

Program meetings are held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located at 723 Lehman Street in Lebanon north of Lebanon Middle School and east of Monument Park. The church has a well-lit parking lot with ample parking located behind the church off of Spruce Street. Please enter the church from the parking lot entrance.

Programs start at 7:00PM unless otherwise noted below. Our programs are open to the general public. The programs are designed for a general audience and children are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
